Playstation 3 Network Is Down... Again - DeclanTM
It has been a troubled year for PSN so far. First there was the hacking of the network and now after nearly four days of it being down, gamers are angry.

When the Playstation 3 was launched back in 2007 gamers were so excited to get their hands on a system that could offer premium online capability. For the last few years there have been several issues with the PSN, but recently it has become very common to see the PSN down for maintenance or for other reasons. Thus firmware updates have become much more regular making some users unable to use the network due to the overwhelming Internet usage these updates require. But are these problems getting worse?

Playstation Network Hacking 2011

A couple of months ago a few very talented (let's be honest) hackers managed to hack the Playstation Network, a feat that many had tried but failed in the years since the console's launch. Immediately following the hack, Sony launched a press statement claiming the company had the situation firmly under control, but many gamers who use the network were not convinced. Plus there was widespread fear that some financial details including credit card numbers were accessed through the hack. This forced some gamers to completely remove their PSN subscriptions, and Sony was not at all happy.

After a few weeks of slight tweaks and numerous updates, the PSN and its security looked to be very much back on track. Personally I have not lost any money and have not had any security issues since the hacking. However the group of hackers is said to have settled the issue with Sony and the parties have come to a truce. But many gamers around the world are highly doubting that we have seen the last of these hackers.

PSN "Down For Maintenance" Easter Weekend 2011

Thursday the PSN went down once again and it has not yet been up for the last few days which makes it the longest length of time that the network has been down since the console's launch. Sony is looking into the possibility of an attack from the hackers, but has also publically denied that this is a possibility. The highly popular Playstation Blog has also been down for the last few days which is making people very nervous and adds to the possibility of a possible hack by maybe more than one group of hackers. No one knows because Sony is simply not saying anything concrete about the situation which is making gamers around the world very angry and worried because they fear that their personal information may be compromised. As of Sunday the PSN has been down for four days.

When Will Playstation Network Be Back Online?

Simply, no one knows when the PSN will be back online, but hopefully it will be very soon. Sony has said “Playstation Network will be back online within a day or two” via websites like G4TV and other gaming specific website, so hopefully the company is not just saying this to please frustrated gamers out there. If the hackers have launched an assault on Sony we could very well see the PSN down for several more days to come. Sadly, only time will tell with this problem but rest assured Sony will be doing all it can to fix the problem.
