With the beginning of this year's V8 Supercars Series just a couple of days away, what are the prospects and chances of this year's Championship?

Since its debut series back in 1997, V8 Supercars has become the biggest and most popular form of Touring Car racing in the world. Hot on the heels of a record breaking 2010 Series, this year's Series is promising many great things, a new champion perhaps? Let's break down the prospects of the 2011 Series.

Championship Prospects

As always in V8 Supercars these days, there are several big names who are always in the running to take out the most coveted prize in Touring Car racing. Arguably the greatest driver in V8 Supercar history, Jamie Whincup will be heavily stung losing his Championship Crown on the streets of Sydney. But the new Champion, James Courtney, has made the move from Ford to Holden and, now racing for HRT, will be a very serious contender for the Crown once again. Joining him at HRT is the long-serving Garth Tandar who is due to have a good Series after last year's bad Series. Waving the flag for Ford, young kiwi Shane Van Gibergan has gotten better and better as his career has gone on and he will be a huge contender to win his first Championship. Also don't rule out the chance of long serving FPR driver Mark Winterbottom.

The Circuits Of Battle

Once again this year the Series gets underway in Abu Dhabi, it has become a trend with V8 Supercars beginning their Series in the middle east. Then we head to one of the biggest events of the year, The Clipsal 500 on the streets of Adelaide. After a few weeks' break, the V8 Supercars Series jumps over to New Zealand for the ITM Hamilton 400. Bathurst will once again be in October and the 2011 Series will come to a end at the Sydney Telstra 500 in early December. These are the big events of this year's Championship but there are many more, including the Townsville 500 and L&H 500 in Phillip Island. These are the great circuits of the V8 Supercars and will determine our new Champion!

Summary

All the prospects, all the circuits one thing remains for certain. This year's Championship is going to be the best, closest, and most historic Series in its history. Will it be Holden or will it be Ford that dominates this year? Who knows? We could see a new Champion, one that we never predicted, it is all yet to be seen. All motorsport fans are excited, that is without a shadow of a doubt.
