Craig Lowndes is one of the most famous names in the world of V8 Supercars and Jenson Button is one of the most famous names in the world of Formula One, and when you put these two names together and send them to one of the most famous racing circuits in the world Mount Panorama great things are going to happen for motorsport fans. As part of a promotion for Vodafone, the two racing stars brought their Formula One and V8 Supercars to Bathurst to test their respective skills on what is arguably the world's toughest race track.
Jenson Button And Craig Lowndes Drives Formula One Car Around Bathurst
Blowing the lap record out of the water, Jenson Button piloted his Vodafone McLaren around Bathurst in front of a media storm. Taking just 48 seconds to complete the course, he was just a second faster than Craig Lowndes' time when he had his own go at driving the Formula One car. When the two swapped seats and had a go with the Team Vodafone Holden V8 Supercar, the times were very much slower but it was a great experience to see a world class, former World Champion Formula One driver pilot a six-million dollar V8 Supercar around Australia’s most famous and dangerous motor racing track. A fair crowd also made their way to the event to catch a glimpse of two of the best drivers in the world, and they were not in any way let down.
Was It A Success
This event has seen for the first time ever, a Formula One race car being driven around Mount Panorama and with an event this big and wanted by fans it was always going to be a success. Fans got much more out of it than anyone else and hopefully this event becomes an annual one. I'm sure motorsport fans around the world would welcome this – it may have been more of a success if the event was televised, but none-the-less a great promotion for both Formula One and V8 Supercars.
Summary
Although it was only a promotional activity, this event was a huge success for Australian Motorsport and also for the fans around the country. With the Formula One season getting underway this weekend it was a good promotion for the upcoming season. V8 Supercars will also play their part at the Australian GP, with the series being a support event to the big boys of Formula One. Vodafone for sure would have cashed in big time with this spectacle on the mountain. Here is hoping this becomes an annual event.
